Rebellion wins MCV/Develop Legend Award 2023
15th May 2023
Rebellion was recognised at last week’s MCV/Develop Awards, joining the MCV roster of Legends alongside Rare and most recently, Sports Interactive.
Rebellion was honoured with the prestigious Legend award last week at the annual MCV/Develop awards in London. On delivering the award, MCV’s Editor Richie Shoemaker commented:
‘This year, the legend award goes to a studio that I first came across almost 30 years ago when they smushed together two of entertainment’s greatest IPs for a doomed console that I still wish I’d bought.
Since then, the studio has done a whole lot of smushing – movie licenses, comic book licenses, books, and of course, quite a few games as well.’
Rebellion co-founder Chris Kingsley, OBE accepted the award on behalf of Rebellion following a short video where fellow co-founder and brother Jason Kingsley, OBE commented:
‘Thank you very much for giving us the Legend award, I think we’ve got to that stage in our careers where it’s nice that people recognised that we’ve been doing reasonably successful things for quite a few decades, but it is nice to be recognised by our peers. Thank you very much, it’s appreciated.’
Last year, Rebellion celebrated three decades of independent game-development, film-making, publishing and beyond. Reflecting on this milestone, Chris commented:
‘We remain as committed and dedicated as we were on that first day and maintain our desire to work together on cool products and projects that entertain people all over the world.
To all you out there, thank you so much for playing our games over the last 30 years. Here’s to the next 30 years.’
The event, which also served to celebrate 25 years of the magazine, was hosted by Shelley Blond, (the original voice of Lara Croft) and is an ongoing opportunity to celebrate immense industry talent and another year of incredible gaming titles.
