Season 2:
New to the Sniper Elite franchise?
Here’s everything you need to know about the latest addition to the franchise. Sniper Elite 5 takes place during D-Day in France, 1944, as hero Karl Fairburne joins a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany.
There he contacts the French Resistance, and they begin to uncover a secret Nazi plot that threatens to turn the tide of the war back in the Nazi’s favour: Operation Kraken. It is now down to Karl to reveal exactly what the Axis forces are planning and end Operation Kraken, and the mastermind behind it, Abelard Möller, before it can be launched.
New to the franchise is Sniper Elite 5’s Invasion Mode, giving players the chance to invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge.
Alternatively, players can choose to work together in co-op across all the game’s missions or test their sharpshooting skills in tense adversarial 16 player multiplayer battles, with customisable characters and loadouts that can be upgraded as you earn XP, medals, and ribbons. If team play is more your style, players can join with up to 3 others against waves of enemies in Survival mode.
We hope that all new and current players can get stuck into the exciting campaign. Whether you’re a skilled marksman, or a deliverer of weaponised chaos, we have no doubt that new recruits will excel on the field of conflict.

Join Rebellion as we celebrate this year’s GAAD (Global Accessibility Awareness Day)! Promoting and contributing to the online discussion surrounding digital access and inclusion, and the more than one billion people with disabilities/impairments around the world.
Did you know that one of the most common accessibility failures online is missing image Alt text? With that in mind…this year, we’re putting YOU to the test with our Alt Text competition!
Craft your best Alt text for the above image and share your results on Twitter using the hashtag #SniperAltLite. Alt text copy can be uploaded using Twitter’s in-built Alt text feature or via the main post copy.
Entries will be judged by @TheWobblyGamer – a visually impaired Streamer, Content Creator, Accessibility Advocate and Consultant and @EveryoneCanUK Ambassador (You might recognise him from playing Sniper Elite 5 for Everyone Can Game Together last October).
The winner of the contest will receive a key for Sniper Elite 5, Sniper Elite 5: Season 2 and a mammoth Sniper Elite 5 merch bundle, complete with a branded Army Rucksack, Ammo Tin, Canvas Map Bag, Dog Tags, A5 Notebook, T-Shirt, Hip Flask and more!
The competition is open to UK residents only and ends on Friday 19 May 2023, 5pm GMT. For information on how to enter and for our full terms & conditions, pleaseclick here.
What is Alt Text?
Alt Text means Alternative text and is text that describes the appearance or function of an image so screen readers (a tool that reads digital screens aloud) can communicate them to the user. People who use screen readers may have visual impairments or blindness, so unless Alt text is provided, they can’t “see” images. This makes them incredibly important!
Rebellion’s top tips for crafting Alt Text
Without Alt Text, this post would read:
Devs gotta do what devs gotta do! Smiling face with sunglasses emoji. Did you find them all? Unlabelled graphic.
For someone with a screen reader, there is no context for what “them” is.
This post does have Alt Text, so it reads:
Devs gotta do what devs gotta do! Smiling face with sunglasses emoji. Did you find them all? Graphic. Meme of Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal in two parts, on the left is an image of Nicolas Cage frowning looking towards Pedro Pascal, text “producer, ok seriously what easter eggs are we putting in our gritty world war two themed Sniper Elite game”, and on the right is Pedro Pascal, smiling widely and looking high, text “devs, what about garden gnomes?”.
Now someone using a screen reader can understand what “them” is referring to and enjoy the meme!
What should Alt Text include?
✅ Content of the image – what’s in it?
✅ Purpose & context of an image – what is important about it?
✅ Text in the image.
❌ Reference to the fact it’s an image, such as “an image of.” The screen reader will already say it’s a graphic.
❌ Information that’s not in the image, such as hiding a joke in the Alt Text.
❌ Be cautious of being overly wordy – often images can be summed up concisely.
Rebellion’s efforts towards more accessible social content
Since GAAD 2022, Rebellion has made strides to improve the accessibility of their social content so that more people can enjoy and engage with the content we produce via our social and community spaces.
We completed a workshop with Accessibility Specialist, Stacey Jenkins, on accessible community management. Here are some quotes from our Community Management team on the value of the workshop.
The workshop reiterated the need to consider accessibility from every angle. It wasn’t just about adding alt text, it was about exploring the various ways all users would engage with a post – and how even with the best intentions, your posts can exclude people from participating in challenges and discussions. The workshop has certainly had an impact on the kinds of social media competitions we’ve run since, as we aim to ensure we’re not excluding anyone from the chance to win keys and giveaways.
A lot of the value from Stacey’s workshop came from understanding where I could better embed myself into the online discourse surrounding accessibility. Stacey was able to share a lot of useful accounts, influencers and resources that I still use on a weekly basis now. As we all know, the accessibility space will continue to evolve and develop so it’s crucial that our ears are always on the ground in terms of how we [Rebellion] move with this change.
In addition to the impacts of the workshop, we now have live captions on our streams and engage with accessibility fundraising events like One Special Day and Everyone Can Game Together.

Furthering your learning
Whether you’re a gamer, a game dev or someone just passing through, there’s never been a better time to further your understanding of accessibility within the online and gaming landscape. Here are a few of our favourite resources to do just that:
Sniper Elite 5 Season Pass Two has LANDED! We’re kick-starting the season with the thrilling new campaign mission Rough Landing as well as two authentically recreated iconic weapons, the MUCH-requested Mosin-Nagant rifle and the Sjögren shotgun.
Not only this, but to celebrate the start of Season 2 we’ve just released the brand new Trench Warfare Weapon Pack for free across all platforms (available to download separately), including the Axis blitzing Carl Gustav M/1945 SMG, the show-stopping Trench Gun and the small but ever deadly Double 1866 pistol.
Watch the latest trailer via the official Rebellion YouTube channel by clicking here.
Rough Landing Mission and Weapon Pack
Allied airmen have been shot down over a dense forest and are now in hiding as they are being hunted by Nazi forces. It’s down to you to find and rescue the airmen and ensure that valuable intelligence is kept out of enemy hands.
Featuring thick woodland, a cramped mine shaft and a village to explore, expect a variety of challenges, including close quarters combat. You can brave the mission as either a solo sniper or you can co-op with a fellow spotter. Best of luck troopers!
New additions to your loadout
To help in your pursuit and rescue of the airmen, you will receive two new weapons: the much-anticipated return of the Mosin-Nagant rifle and introducing the Sjögren Inertia shotgun.
A famously powerful and reliable Russian rifle, the Mosin-Nagant has excellent stopping power and great stability making it an excellent sniper rifle at very long range. Meanwhile the 12G Swedish Sjögren Inertia was one of the first semi-automatic shotguns. It has a distinctive feel to its recoil, which can be controlled to deliver accurate shots at a reasonable rate of fire.
Included in this pack:
Rough Landing campaign mission
Mosin-Nagant rifle
Sjögren shotgun
Rough Landing is available to buy now as the first content drop of Season Pass Two (with more to follow in the coming weeks) or as an individual purchase.
Trench Warfare Weapon Pack
This FREE Weapon Pack gives you more devastating firepower, specifically for those unpredictable close quarters combat scenarios.
The Carl Gustav M/1945, better known as the Swedish K, was adopted in 1945, taking features from various World War 2 firearms to produce a reliable and well-balanced sub-machine gun. Firing at 600 rounds-per-minute, the Gustav provides accurate single shots, whilst also offering great control in continuous fire.
A powerful pump-action shotgun, the Trench Gun first saw use by US Forces during World Wars I & II. Fed with 12-gauge shells from its 6-round tube magazine, it sacrifices range and fire rate for extreme damage in close quarters.
Finally, the Double 1866 is a double-barrel pocket pistol designed in the 19th Century as an easily concealable backup gun that can be drawn at speed. Despite only featuring a single-action trigger and producing a very low muzzle velocity, the D.1866’s unique traits make for a powerful weapon at close range.
Included in this pack:
Carl Gustav M/1945 SMG
Trench Gun shotgun
Double 1866 pistol
There you have it troops. The campaign continues with an array of new weaponry to assist you on your mission. We’re looking forward to seeing the updates to your loadouts! To read the full patch notes that accompanied this release, please click here.

The latest instalment in the award-winning series, Sniper Elite 5 offers unparalleled sniping, tactical third-person combat and an enhanced kill cam. Fight your way across the most immersive maps yet, with many real-world locations captured in stunning detail, and an improved traversal system that lets you explore more of them than ever before.
France, 1944 – As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, elite marksman Karl Fairburne makes contact with the French Resistance. Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken.
Key Features
Expansive Campaign – Many real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment, and multiple infiltration and extraction points and kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.
Advanced Gunplay Physics and Traversal – Use ziplines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past a sharp-eyed lookout. Factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target.
High Calibre Customisation – Use workbenches to customise and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon – change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondaries and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armour-piercing right down to non-lethal.
Invasion Mode – Campaign Drop in PvP and Co-Op – Invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Alternatively, as Karl you can call for assistance and have a second sniper drop in to help you out of a tricky situation.
Tense Adversarial Multiplayer – Customise your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16 player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to 3 other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.
Enhanced Kill Cam – More realistic and grisly than ever, the trademark X-ray kill cam returns, showing you the true destructive power of each shot. Bones deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping a new path through enemy bodies. SMGs and pistols can also trigger kill cams, including multiple shots in dramatic slow motion.
Rebellion Unplugged, the dedicated tabletop division of leading independent creative studio Rebellion, has opened pre-orders for Sniper Elite: The Board Game, a 1-4 player stealth-action tabletop game that brings the award-winning franchise to a brand-new format.
The game recreates the classic Sniper Elite gameplay of stealth and meticulous planning, followed by franticly trying to escape the Axis forces clutches if all does not go to plan. It is a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, where victory or defeat could change the course of the war.
Watch the Pre-order Trailer here:
One player takes on the role of allied sniper Karl Fairburne, dropped deep behind enemy lines to complete objectives critical to the Allied war effort, while their opponents team up to control squads of Axis soldiers tasked with defending their base and dealing with the intruder.
The sniper keeps their location secret by tracking their movement on a hidden board, carefully making their way across the map towards the objectives identified by Allied HQ. Stealth is their greatest advantage but knowing when to reach for their rifle and take the shot can be the key to securing victory.
Faced with this fearsome adversary, the Axis soldiers must use their superior numbers and the unique abilities of their specialist officers to turn the tides of battle in their favour. Tactical planning and careful insight are critical as they track the sniper’s movements and outwit their bluffs, using their miniatures to block paths, guard vulnerable areas, and move in for the kill.
Alongside the release of Sniper Elite 5, Sniper Elite: The Board Game marks another exciting addition coming to the award-winning franchise this year.
Game Features
10 Unique Miniatures – Karl Fairburne and nine Axis Soldiers are transformed into 28mm plastic miniatures for players to command in the game, patrolling the board with the defenders and revealing the Karl Fairburne mini when his location is discovered. Each miniature is a unique sculpt, with an ink wash to bring out the details.
Double-sided Game Board – the double-sided game board offers two different maps to play on. Dash between the buildings of the Launch Facility, ducking into cover to avoid patrols as you make your way to your objectives, or make use of the elevated walkway as you attempt to avoid detection in the Submarine Pens.
Dedicated Solo Rules – for those who see themselves as more of a lone wolf, the dedicated solo rules mean you can jump into the game alone and see whether you can successfully lead Karl to victory against the Axis. Optional rules variants include ways to increase or decrease the difficulty and provide you with new challenges to face.
The Eagle’s Nest Expansion – add even more variety to your games with the Eagle’s Nest expansion, which introduces two new maps, alternative Allied Sniper’s each with unique abilities and miniatures, and additional items and solo cards.
Exclusive intel has come our way and we are proud to reveal a new trailer for Sniper Elite 5 which showcases the game’s features and game modes, including the first glimpse of multiplayer and Invasion Mode. With all footage captured in game, you can feast your eyes on the Features Trailer here:
Sniper Elite 5’s expansive campaign is set in France in 1944 and centres around the events of D-Day. Elite sniper Karl Fairburne uncovers a Nazi plot called Operation Kraken that could turn the tide of the war back in their favour. Working in the shadows behind enemy lines, Karl has to use all the skills at his disposal to destroy Operation Kraken and the mastermind behind it Abelard Möller. The full Campaign is playable in two player online co-op allowing players to team up as they fight the Axis force and track down Möller.
Invasion Mode.
You can also try to thwart Karl’s progress as the new Invasion Mode allows an opposing player to join your game as an Axis Sniper tasked with hunting Karl down and taking him out. The invading player can make use of AI Axis soldiers to help them find Karl’s location, creating a high stakes game of cat and mouse. Meanwhile Karl can utilise phones placed within the level to gather intel on the invader and their location. For those wanting an uninterrupted campaign, you’ll be pleased to hear Invasion Mode can be toggled on/off in the game menu.
Multiplayer.
Multiplayer is not restricted to the campaign as a suite of tense multiplayer combat modes are also available. Complete with all format crossplay, Sniper Elite 5’s multiplayer features four core game modes each with a host of customisation options allowing players to create their own matches.
Sniper Elite has always been recognised for its advance gun physics and this has been elevated even further for Sniper Elite 5. With weaponry painstaking recreated from real world reference to ensure maximum authenticity, the guns in Sniper Elite 5 contain a meticulous level of detail and all have their own unique feel and characteristics to the player.
Elite snipers will be pleased to see that the Kill Cam has also been elevated. Clinical kills with pistols and SMG will now trigger the Kill Cam in addition to rifle and takedown kills. Bullets will ricochet off bone, causing increased devastation which is shown to the player in even more gory detail than ever before.
Weapon customisation has also been greatly enhanced with players now able to change a weapon’s stock, magazines, receiver, barrel, scopes and iron sights as well as its materials. This allows every player to create a suite of weapons that perfectly suit their individual playstyle as well as the mission that they are undertaking. Customisation options are unlocked in the game by discovering workbenches that are hidden within the maps. At these benches players can then customise their loadout meaning that they can adapt their playstyle and approach on the fly without having to restart a mission.
New traversal mechanics have unlocked even more playstyle options. The routes you take can define if you are stealthy and stay in the shadows or go loud and take the fight to the enemies head on. The ability to climb vines for example allows Karl to reach new areas of the map giving him sneaky routes, great vantage points and access to secret locations further adding to each mission’s replayability.

A sharpshooter must get to know his weapon inside out, and it’s time for you to get to know yours.
Take a sneak peak at the authentic World War 2 weaponry available in Sniper Elite 5, in the brand new Marksman gameplay trailer, captured completely in game engine, here.
Launching simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Steam and Windows Store on May 26th, Sniper Elite 5 features a comprehensive suite of weaponry with the most customisation and attachments ever seen in the franchise’s history.
With over 200 options, including items such as scopes, suppressors, stocks, muzzle breaks, materials and more, snipers will be able to adjust their loadout to suit their playstyle and the objectives they face in each mission.
Weapon Attachments and Customisation Options are primarily unlocked by finding Workbenches within each of the levels. As different elements are added, removed or adapted the changes will be reflected in four key weapon stats: Power, Rate of Fire, Control and Mobility. A stealthy player may want to opt for power and rate of fire at the cost of control and mobility due to their methodical approach, while the opposite will be true for a more “run and gun” style player.
“Sniper Elite has always been defined by its authentic gunplay and we wanted to take that to the next level for Sniper Elite 5,” commented Jason Kingsley, CEO, Rebellion. “We have concentrated on enhancing the character and feel of our weapons, including the addition of an ‘Ironsights’ perspective for pistols and secondary weapons such as SMGs.”
“Having conducted thousands of hours of playtests over the course of the franchise, it is clear that everyone plays the game in their own, unique way. That is why we have developed the new Weapon Customisation system, allowing players to adapt their weapons to best suit the way they play and ensure that everyone enjoys the experience.”
The latest instalment also includes the addition of an ‘Ironsights’ perspective for pistols and secondary weapons such as SMGs, so you’ll be closer than ever to the action and the weapons you’ll come to rely on.
In the coming weeks we’ll be offering our Community the chance to to get to know more about Sniper Elite 5, directly from the development team themselves. Stay tuned via the official Sniper Elite social channels listed below to find out more!
So what are you waiting for Snipers? Be ready to reprise the role of elite marksman Karl Fairburne as you travel to 1944 France to uncover and destroy the Nazi’s latest plan: Operation Kraken.

It’s been just over a month since Rebellion officially announced that Sniper Elite 5 will be launching simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Steam and Windows Store in the coming year.
To mark the occasion, we’re delighted to unveil a new CGI trailer for Sniper Elite 5 which hints at a brand new Invasion Mode, allowing players to drop into each other’s Campaign to take the role of an Axis Sniper and in return, earn high rewards. Created by Rebellion’s dedicated production company Rebellion VFX, the new trailer utilises both in game and bespoke VFX assets with a tailored audio mix to create a stunning cinematic which can be watched here:
Invasion Mode
Invasion Mode will bring a whole new dimension to the game’s intense drama and add increased diversity to the tactics that players will have to employ in order to complete their mission. The invading Axis Sniperwill have the sole aim to eliminate the player while the Allied Sniper will gain an extra objective: take out the invader. Invasion Mode will also be available in co-operative play increasing the challenge for the Axis invader as they now have two Allies to track down, but offering greater rewards. Chris Kingsley, CTO at Rebellion, commented:
“Invasion Mode is a fantastic addition to the gameplay experience of Sniper Elite 5. A human controlled invader can act in ways that are so diverse and unpredictable, which adds to the challenge and ramps up the tension even further. The player will be informed that an invading Axis Sniper has joined their game and from that point on it becomes an extremely intense, high stakes game of cat and mouse.”
“For those players who just want a solo gameplay experience there will be the option to switch Invasion Mode off, but we recommend that everyone gives it a try at some point. We have been having a lot of fun with it in the studio, jumping into each other’s games and finding innovative, stealthy ways to take each other out.”
Invasion Mode will enable some unique skills for both players. The Axis invader can use of the AI Axis forces to help locate the Allied player. Tagging an Axis soldier will enable ‘Eagle Eyes’ which means that if that soldier spots the Allied Sniper then their last known location will be displayed on the map. The Axis Sniper can also instruct nearby soldiers to ‘Stay Sharp’, increasing their awareness. For the Allied Sniper, each level has invasion phones scattered around the map which the player can use to discover the last known location of their opponent. But beware, as not only can these phones be booby trapped, but overuse will raise suspicions and reveal the player’s location.
Successful Axis Snipers will be rewarded with weapons, items and skin unlocks while Allied Snipers can earn weapon and character skins by killing their opponent. You will also be awarded with additional XP for having Invasion Mode enabled.
Alongside Invasion Mode, we’re also thrilled to showcase the brand new key art for Sniper Elite 5:
