Including all in-game engine footage, take a sneak peak of what’s to come in Sniper Elite 5’s reveal trailer: Watch the Trailer

As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, Karl makes contact with the French Resistance. Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken. It’s Karl’s mission to take out the high ranking Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken once and for all.

Based upon real world locations from France in 1944 the new game maps are the largest and most immersive in Sniper Elite’s history with the new traversal system offering players an even greater sandbox of options when it comes to taking out their targets. You can even invite a friend to help you on your mission with enhanced co-operative gameplay options.

Sniper Elite 5 continues the franchise’s unparalleled tactical sniping experience complete with incredible ballistics and enhanced kill cam taking the genre-defining feature to the next level. New customisation options allow you to adjust your rifle, other weapons and ammo to suit the mission and your play style.

Grab your scopes and prepare to experience:

  • Expansive Campaign – real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment, and multiple infiltration and extraction points and kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.
  • Advanced gunplay physics and traversal – use ziplines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past a sharp-eyed lookout. Factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target.
  • High calibre customisation – use workbenches to customise and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon. Change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondary weapons, and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armour-piercing right down to non-lethal.
  • Invasion mode drop-in PVP – you can invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Alternatively, as Karl you can call for assistance and have a second sniper drop in to help you out of a tricky situation.
  • Tense adversarial multiplayer – customise your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16 player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to 3 other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.
  • Enhanced kill cam – more realistic and grisly than ever, the trademark X-ray kill cam returns, showing you the true destructive power of each shot. Bones deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping a new path through enemy bodies. SMGs and pistols can also trigger kill cams, including multiple shots in dramatic slow motion.

Why we’re launching Sniper Elite 4 in 2017

Dear Sniper Elite fans past, present and future!

We hope that you’re all enjoying the sights, sounds and megatonnes of E3! Of course we’re going to be in Los Angeles too with Sniper Elite 4 and Battlezone, so expect to see lots of live footage, gameplay clips and more over the next week, but we also have some more news too that we want to talk about…

Today we’re announcing that Sniper Elite 4 is launching February 14th, 2017.

When we originally revealed the game back in March, our plan was to release this year, and this was only reinforced when our pre-Alpha build was received incredibly well by those who got to see it at GDC in San Francisco.

Was it was nerve-wracking showing the game for the first time, and quite a lot earlier in production than we normally do? Absolutely, but in the end we felt confident the game was where we wanted it to be. I’d go as far as saying the demo had some of the best preview feedback we’ve ever had.

So when we sat down recently to decide a launch date, we had a decision to make. Do we stick to 2016 as planned many moons ago, or do we give the team just a little more time to help them deliver beyond the promise that the game has already shown, to hone the game’s best features, or even add new ones that previously might have been left on the cutting-room floor?

It wasn’t an easy decision but for us it seems like a win-win for both Rebellion and Sniper Elite fans.

This is why we’re proud to be completely independent. Being independent means you can make changes when things are going really well, rather than just reacting when things don’t go to plan.

We know a lot of you will be disappointed that you won’t get to play Sniper Elite 4 this year, but we hope you understand our decision and enjoy all the new footage and details from our beautiful “Viaduct” level this week.

We’re also heading to some public shows in the UK and Europe in the near future, so look out for us there and make sure to say hello!

Thank you as ever, for supporting independent UK games development.

Jason responds to Sniper Elite 4 rumours

Earlier today (Monday Feb 15th, 2016) VideoGamer.com posted a story about rumours of a Sniper Elite 4 project in development.

David Scammell at VideoGamer did kindly give Rebellion a chance to respond to before publishing the story, and here is Jason Kingsley’s response in full.

“To be honest we’re flattered that people are actively searching out for a new Sniper Elite title, and we certainly don’t mind being mentioned next to projects like Black Ops 3 and Unreal!” Kingsley said in a statement provided to us this afternoon. “However the person in question doesn’t work for Rebellion and we haven’t announced a new entry in the Sniper Elite series.”

“Last year we celebrated the Sniper Elite series’ 10th birthday and 10 millionth sale, so our IP is still hugely important to both Rebellion and independent UK games development. We’re actually gearing up to announce a new Rebellion game soon, so expect to hear more from us before GDC!”

In short? We can’t confirm the unnannounced projects we’re working on, but expect some news very soon!

Sniper Elite V2 is FREE on Steam!

*** This offer is now over ***

Today Rebellion and Steam have teamed up to make Sniper Elite V2 completely FREE to download on Steam – but ONLY for 24 hours – it ends Thursday June 5th at 10am PST and 6pm BST.

Download on Steam for FREE now >>

Even if you already own the game, please share the news with all your friends and let’s get those multiplayer servers filled with fresh blood and the beautiful sounds of rifle fire!

Of course giving away our best ever game for free is a little nerve-wracking – here’s a few answers to some of the questions we know you’ll be asking us!

Why are you giving it away for FREE?

V2 is one of Rebellion’s most successful ever games, but it’s been out for over two years now. And while it exceeded all sales expectations, it’s still got a lot of room to grow.

One of the most common things we hear from new players is that Sniper Elite V2 is not quite what they expected – it’s got more stealth and tactical elements than they ever realised. Basically – it’s far removed from the simple shooting gallery that a name like Sniper Elite might indicate!

With Sniper Elite 3 so close to launch we wanted to build buzz around the franchise again, and in particular, get the series into the hands of new players who might go on to become lifetime fans.

As Jason, our Creative Director puts it:

“In the end independent studios like Rebellion know that players are more important than money. If you can delight them and build that word of mouth, that buzz about your game – it’s worth everything. We want people to interact with our studio and our games for years, not just launch week.”

But what about fans who PAID for V2? What do they get?

Firstly we hope that a burst of new players will really liven up the multiplayer scene around V2 – especially now that there is so much added DLC content included that wasn’t there at launch, and hopefully this will provide a lot of fun for core sniper fans who’ve had to wait patiently for MP games and co-op missions over the past months.

However we aren’t going to be providing any new content, and this is mainly because the idea was only discussed with Steam very recently, so there was no time to work on anything else for V2 – especially with Sniper Elite 3 so close to launch.

We have all kinds of Sniper Elite players – the original pre-orderers, the launch buyers, the Steam sales buyers, retail buyers the gifter … the list goes on and on!

Sadly we can’t be fair to everyone, and we don’t have the ability to give different bits of content to people depending on how much they paid! This is simply not possible via Steam.

We honestly hope fans don’t feel cheated because it was never our intention, and we decided that it was right we should warn players on Monday that they shouldn’t buy V2 on Steam this week – which was reported by lots of gaming websites, and posted on our social media.

Of course if you have any concerns or questions, email marketing@rebellion.co.uk

Why aren’t the 360 and PS3 versions free as well?

As you probably know, 505 Games are the publisher of Sniper Elite V2 on consoles so it is up to them to run these kinds of promotions for console players – we have no say on that.

Furthermore we’re not even sure Microsoft and Sony have the ability to run such promotions on the ‘old’ consoles. That’s discounting retail too, who definitely can’t make the boxed games free.

So overall, it’s not something that was ever viable.

So will you do this for all your games?

Being honest – we don’t know, but probably not. It was never part of our original plans and we have no idea how this will turn out! If we want to be sustainable it’s up to us to experiment with our games and how we keep the studio financially viable.

We hope you’ll continue to follow and support Rebellion.

Wish us luck!

Rebellion
